Dine Out Boston takes place each year two times each year - winter and summer - for two highly-anticipated weeks when top Boston and Cambridge restaurants showcase their cuisine by offering special deals on lunch and dinner menus. 

Dates for the Winter 2022 edition of Boston Restaurant Week, as the event is also called, are March 13 - 26.

So get ready to make your reservations when all the best places to dine out in Boston, Cambridge, and nearby suburbs go on sale.

Why?  Well - winters can feel long here in New England and this eagerly-awaited dining event (also called Boston Restaurant Week) gives you the perfect excuse for dining out during still-chilly early spring weather and savoring the tasty fare offered at discount prices.  Especially this year, it's a great way to celebrate the many chef-owned restaurants that make Boston and Cambridge special.

Some restaurants also offer the special menus on the Saturday between the two weeks.  A few make their special menus - and prices - available throughout the month of March.

What to Expect during Dine Out Boston

Here's how Dine Out Boston works:  Chefs at participating restaurants in Boston, Cambridge, and nearby suburbs offer prix fixe lunch and dinner menus.

Each chef selects one price point for each meal - $22, $27, or $32 for lunch, and $36, $41, or $46 for dinner - and prepares delicious lunch and dinner menus at the chosen fixed price to showcase the restaurant's best fare.  

Typically you choose two or three courses, with several options for each course.  Some restaurants include selections from their regular menu, while others prepare entirely different dishes.

Menus may offer you extras for a supplemental charge:  perhaps a dollop of caviar, a garnish of lobster, a sprinkling of truffles, or a slice of seared fois gras. 

At a few participating restaurants, diners can choose optional wine pairings.  Since not everyone loves wine, a few restaurants offer beer flights - watch for this trend to grow!

Prices do not include beverages, taxes, and tips - and you should always tip based on your best guess of what your meal might have normally cost, not on the bargain price you're actually paying.

Should You Make Reservations for Dine Out Boston?

Yes.  You definitely need to have reservations because bargain-hunting foodies turn out for this event in huge numbers.  Your best strategy will be to call as soon as the reservation period opens, usually about 3 weeks before each Dine Out period.

Because many of the city's top restaurants take part, competition to get coveted reservations can be fierce - but diners are well-rewarded by the opportunity to sample the cuisine of famous chefs, revisit old favorites, and try the offerings of newcomers.
